Each term the Principal, DFO and Corporate Services and Brand Identity Manager meet to discuss H&S topics affecting the Academy. In March we discussed the latest H&S audit, which looked at more of our educational activities. The auditor visited three lessons – huge thanks to Luke, Mikyla and Yasmin for accommodating these! The audit was a success and the auditor made a positive recommendation for continued ISO45001 certification.

We also reviewed recent first aid reports and incidents. Thank you to all of you for ensuring that you report any accidents or incidents or near misses. This helps us to identify any common causes or trends, enabling us to prevent more accidents in the future. To date this year there have been no accidents requiring reporting under RIDDOR and no accidents needing trips to A&E. Let’s keep that up!

On the last day of term, the H&S Working Party, which includes our H&S Link Governor, members of our Site Team and the Curriculum Leaders for PE, Science and Technology, held its termly meeting to review H&S at Chelsea Academy. We looked ahead at planned first aid and positive handling training next term, as well as H&S legislation which will impact the Academy. We also discussed ongoing work to control mice in the building and options for helping to prevent pigeons flying in.

Please contact Jeni Cousans or Sara Hopkins with any comments or questions concerning H&S.
